Electronic Waste Recycling
Electronic waste is an ever growing segment of the municipal solid wastestream. Because numerous electronic devices are made with components that contain lead, mercury, nickel, cadmium, and other toxic elements that can harm the environment, the Department of Toxic Substances Control prohibits disposal of lead-content cathode ray tubes (CRTs) and certain other electronic devices in landfills. (Statutes contained in Title 22 of the California Code of RegulationsUniversal Waste Rules.)
