EDCO Will Deliver New Trash Carts to Lakewood Residents

Residents will receive, at no cost, one new trash container from EDCO. This new 96-gallon capacity cart will hold as much trash as three standard trash cans. The new trash carts have an attached lid that is great for sealing your trash and keeping animals out. The attached lids are also good for stormwater pollution prevention. Each cart also comes with a set of wheels which will help make moving containers to the street much easier.

GO GREEN! Green Waste Recycling

Starting in March 2010, EDCO will be enhancing your current collection service by implementing separated green-waste collection, at no additional charge!

EDCO is proud to provide the City of Lakewood with a new separate collection service for your yard-waste materials. Residents will begin to place all their green waste in their existing rigid trash cans and set them out on the curb on their regular collection day. Our green-waste recycling program is simple, convenient and very important to the preservation of our environment and precious landfill capacity. Click here for more information.

Automated Cart vs. Trash Cans

96-Gallon Capacity Cart Equals 3 trash cans

Use automated cart to collect household trash. Automated carts should be set out in front of your residence, at street level, with the cart wheels against the curb, if applicable. Use your old trash cans to separate yard waste for recycling.

Should you have space or storage constraints, alternate cart sizes are available. Call the City of Lakewood at (562) 866-9771.

Automated trash truckWhy Automated Trash Collection?

Fully automated waste collection is a state-of-the-art waste removal system that is extremely efficient and results in a clean and orderly appearance on waste collection day. EDCO’s new fleet of automated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered collection trucks are equipped with a robotic arm that mechanically lifts and empties the new automated waste carts into the truck.

Questions & Answers:

  • Will just one automated trash cart hold a week’s worth of trash?
For most residents, yes. This should be more than enough capacity for most families, particularly when recyclables and yard waste are separated properly for recycling.
  • Can I use regular trash cans or trash bags if I fill my automated cart before my collection day?
No. The automated waste collection trucks can only pick up the automated carts provided by EDCO. The mechanical arms that empty automated carts cannot pick up smaller objects such as standard trash cans or plastic bags.
  • Can I receive more than one trash cart?
Yes. Additional trash carts are available from EDCO for a nominal fee. Additional recycling carts are available at no extra cost.
  • Will EDCO continue to offer DIAL-A- DUMP?
Yes. Call EDCO at (562) 531-3054 by 3:30 p.m. the day before your regularly scheduled waste collection day.

Please do NOT place excess waste beside your automated cart; and do NOT place green waste or single-stream recyclables in plastic bags. What To Do On Collection Day

  • Set out your trash cart, recycling cart and yard waste cans at the curb in front of your home prior to 6 a.m. on your scheduled service day.
  • Arrows on the lid of your trash and recycling cart should point toward the street.
  • Keep a minimum of two (2) feet distance between the trash cart, recycling cart and yard waste cans and three (3) feet from obstructions such as parked cars, mail boxes, trees and telephone poles.
  • Please do not overload your trash cart. Do not over fill the automated cart so as to prevent the cart lid from properly closing.
  • Please be careful not to place carts in areas of traffic, such as bike lanes, in order to avoid blocking paths of travel.

When setting out waste and recycling carts for collection, always leave enough space so your postal carrier can access your mail box.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding placement of your waste or recycling container, please contact our office and a customer service representative will be happy to assist you.
